Meitei Cheng is a product of different paddy varieties, which were stored over time by the farmers, in granaries. As it cannot be classified within a specific category, the product is tagged as 'Meitei Cheng'. Due to its low cost in comparison to other varieties, it is increasing in popularity. It tastes normal and has a glutinous property.
This rice needs less water in cooking as rice from newly harvested paddy stays hydrated and tends to be stickier in comparison to the aged (Ariba) rice.
